How Commission Is Calculated

Four simple steps from sale price to your bank account

Step 1
Sale Price
The price buyer pays
Step 2
− Commission
Category rate applied
Step 3
− GST & TCS
18% on commission + 1% TCS
Step 4
Net Payout
Deposited to your bank
Example: ₹1,000 Fashion Product (8% commission, 12% GST)
Sale Price (GST-inclusive) ₹1,000.00
Taxable Value (÷1.12, for TCS basis) ₹892.86
Platform Commission (8% of ₹1,000) − ₹80.00
GST on Commission (18% of ₹80) − ₹14.40
TCS (1% of ₹892.86 taxable value) − ₹8.93
Net Payout to Bank ₹896.67

* TCS is recoverable when filing your ITR (appears in Form 26AS). The ₹107.14 GST on the product stays with you — remit via GSTR-3B. Shipping charges are passed through separately with no commission.

What each deduction means
Platform Commission
Our fee for marketplace access, traffic, payments, and logistics support. Applied on the GST-inclusive sale price. Rate varies by category.
GST on Commission (18%)
18% GST levied on the platform commission amount. Claimable as Input Tax Credit (ITC) in your GSTR-2B if you are GST-registered.
TCS — Tax Collected at Source (1%)
Mandated under Section 52 of the GST Act. Calculated as 1% of the taxable value (your sale price ÷ (1 + GST rate)) — not the full GST-inclusive amount. Deposited with the government on your behalf; fully recoverable in your ITR via Form 26AS.
GST on Product — Not a Platform Deduction
The GST embedded in your product's sale price (e.g., ₹107.14 in the example above) stays with you. You collect it from the buyer and remit it to the government via GSTR-3B. The platform does not deduct product GST.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything sellers ask about commissions and payouts

When is commission deducted — when order is placed or when it's delivered?
Commission is deducted at the time of settlement, after the order is delivered and the return window has closed. If an order is in transit or within the return period, it is held in your pending balance and not yet deducted.
Can I claim back the GST on commission charged to me?
Yes. If you are GST-registered, you can claim the 18% GST charged on platform commission as Input Tax Credit (ITC) in your GSTR-2B. EcomBuyer.in issues a tax invoice (B2B GST invoice) for every commission deduction, which you'll find in your seller finance section.
What is TCS and how do I recover it?
TCS (Tax Collected at Source) is deducted under Section 52 of the GST Act by EcomBuyer.in as an e-commerce operator. It is calculated at 1% of your taxable value — that is, your sale price divided by (1 + your product's GST rate). For example, a ₹1,000 Fashion product with 12% GST has a taxable value of ₹892.86, so TCS = ₹8.93, not ₹10. The deducted amount is deposited with the government against your PAN/GSTIN and automatically appears in Form 26AS and GSTR-2A. You can claim it as a credit when filing your quarterly ITR or offset it in your GST return.
What happens to the commission if a product is returned?
The platform commission, GST on commission, and TCS are all reversed within the next settlement cycle. A credit note is issued automatically for your GST records. You keep any amounts already settled for that order if the return window has passed.
How is my volume tier calculated if I sell across multiple categories?
Your volume tier is based on the total number of completed orders across all categories in a calendar month. The discount is then applied to your category rate for each sub-category. For example, a Gold-tier seller selling Fashion products (8%) would have an effective rate of 7% (8% − 1%).
Is there any fee to list products or register as a seller?
No. Seller registration and product listing are completely free. There is no monthly subscription or setup fee. You only pay when you make a sale, through the commission deduction on that sale.
My product spans multiple categories — which rate applies?
The commission rate is determined by the primary category you assign to your product at listing time. Make sure to choose the most accurate category. If you're unsure, contact seller support before listing and we'll help you classify correctly.
Are there any additional charges for using promotional or advertising features?
Promoted listings and digital advertising campaigns (Google Ads, Meta, etc.) are separate paid services available through the EcomBuyer Digital Marketing module. These are charged against your seller marketing wallet and do not affect your standard commission rate.
